Cricket On The Up & UP!

Cricketers

In recent times Dominica has made many positive strides in various sporting disciplines and cricket has stood out significantly. From the selection of Alick Athanaze to the West Indies U19 team who participated in the ICC Cricket World Cup where Athanaze topped the score sheets ending the tournament with 418 runs, and later representing the Senior Windward Islands team, to numerous boys and girls representing the Windward Islands Under 15 and Under 19 teams.

Even our local primary and secondary schools cricket tournaments organized by the Dominica Sports Division has seen a number of star performers. Stephan Pascal, Yawani Regis, and Neo Davis are just a few. Shane Shillingford, Kavem Hodge, Tyrone Theophile, and Liam Sebastien have also continued to pave the way and set the example for our younger athletes leading Dominica to the 2018 Windward Islands Cricket Championship title where Dominica defeated St. Vincent by 14 runs after scoring (214) runs in which Alick Athanze scored (101) at the final in St. Lucia.

With this said we would like to congratulate Tahj Tavernier, Daneal Dupiney, Jahseon Alexander, Micah Joseph, and Lincoln Abe Durand (pictured above) on their selection to the Windward Islands Under 19 Cricket Team ahead of the CWI Regional Tournament to be held later this summer. We wish our boys all the best and we urge our senior athletes and various clubs and organizations to continue to support our young cricketers as they make us proud.
