No Throne For The Prince

Prince in goal

Le Phare suffered an unfortunate defeat to La Gauloise Wednesday, May 30th in their final Regionale 1 match in Capesterre resulting in a 3rd place finish with (77) points; tied on points with USBM in 2nd, and new champions of the 2017/2018 season, CSM with (78) points.

Prince himself was very disappointed in the result as it’s their only defeat all year. “The toughest thing is to work hard all season and throw the title away on the final day. It’s hard, but as a team, we just need to work harder. Saturday we’ll be playing the cup final so we need a victory. We need to bounce back for next season.”

Prince managed (12) clean sheets in (21) matches (cup & league), awarded man of the match twice, and made a number of critical saves including a penalty save versus Amical which secured a well-needed 2-1 away win.

Fortunately, Chad Bertrand and Julian Wade weren’t too disappointed in their final match although they were not title contenders, as their team Solidarite Scolaire managed a 1 nil victory over Sirocco to end the season in 6th place, (3) points above Soroco. Wade ended the Campaign with eleven (11) goals from (21) matches (cup & league), (4) assists, and (5) man of the match awards despite missing (6) games to injury.

Bertrand however, did not achieve such decorated statistics this season which may have been due to an unusual defensive role he played in midfield all season. He is expected to return to his offensive role in midfield for Dominica this summer, with former Dubanc FC teammate, Briel Thomas in a more defensive role. Thomas has been home for a few weeks as his team, WConnection finished 2nd in the T&T Pro League and won the First Citizens Cup, and the FA Cup.

Saturday Le Phare will be playing the Cup Final versus Etoile at 8pm which will put an end to matches for this season. Hopefully, they can redeem themselves from the loss on Wednesday and end on a more positive note.

Keep up the good work guys and all the best next season.
