The boys from Mahaut secured the title after a 1 nil victory over the Portsmouth, Northern Concrete & Steel Bombers at the Windsor Park Stadium in Roseau earlier today.

The lone goal came from Nick Anthony in the 45th minute, and although many chances were created by both teams, many were also squandered which in turn kept the scoreline at 1 nil. Three trophies, numerous medals, and a total of $20,000ec were gifted to three teams during the closing ceremony after the final.

Petrol Caribe Point Mitchel received a bundle of bronze medals, a trophy, and a cheque of $3,000ec after defeating Exodus FC yesterday in the third-place match. Northern Concrete & Steel Bombers received their runners-up trophy, a bundle of silver medals, and a cheque of $7,000ec. Winners, Belfast Estate, Mahaut Soca Strikers received a bundle of gold medals, the first place trophy, and a well-deserved cheque of $10,000ec.

Match officials, Matthew Walsh (referee), Clyde Cadet and Shaun McDonald (Assistant Referees), and Jason John Baptiste (4th Official) also received medals for their participation in a well officiated final.

In a post-interview, captain of the Mahaut Soca Strikers expressed his joy stating that “the party has just started” as they will surely be celebrating tonight being back to back champions after winning the DFA First Division League last year. Captain of the Portsmouth Bombers thought that his “strikers [didn’t] have eagerness and goal scoring hunger. Too many goals were thrown away, [and] to win a match we must convert”. Regardless of the end result, the team was still able to make it to the final, and that itself is a great achievement.

Congratulations again to the Mahaut Soca Strikers on taking home the title, the Dominica Football Association on running this tournament despite the difficulties encountered after hurricane Maria, and all the teams, and match officials who participated in this tournament. We would also like to thank the DBS Radio for live commentary Well done!
