2018 Commonwealth Games – One For The History Books

Team Dominica Commonwealth Games 2018

The Gold Cast 2018 Commonwealth Games are finally done, and we are beyond proud of the athletes, technical staff, and other members of the Dominica Olympic Committee who represented Dominica in Austria. We have seen many disappointments and shortcomings but looking back, we can all be proud of the end result.

We would like to thank and congratulate all our athletes especially those who wrote their names in the history books as the first Dominicans to take home Commonwealth Games medals; Yordanys Garcia (Silver in Men’s Triple Jump “16.86m”), Thea Lafond (Bronze in Women’s Triple Jump “13.92m”), and Bram Sanderson who was unable to secure a medal but became the first Dominican to participate in cycling at the Commonwealth Games.

We urge our fellow Dominicans to continue to encourage all our athletes, and we hope that those who were unable to secure medals will be able to move forward and focus their energy on analyzing their shortcomings, correcting their mistakes, and train even harder to further develop their skills for the upcoming events this year.

Below is an interview with the president of the Dominica Olympic Committee Billy Doctrove.

“Doctrove says the medals are a symbol of the hard work of the athletes and the Dominica Olympic Committee. Doctrove spoke to the Dominica Olympic Committee Media team following Dominica’s participation at the games.”
