The Final of the Sports Division’s Secondary Schools 13 & Under Football Championship will be played on Monday, January 23, 2017 at 3:00 pm at theWindsor Park Sports Stadium and will feature the Dominica Grammar School and the Portsmouth Secondary School.
Both schools earned the rights to be finalists when they won their semi-final matches which were played on Friday, January 13, 2017 at Pottersville. The Portsmouth Secondary School beat last year’s Champions, the St. Mary’s Academy, on penalty kicks 2: 1; both teams had been tied 2:2 after regulation time.
The Dominica Grammar School won its match-up against the Isaiah Thomas Secondary School – 4:0.
This means that a new school will be crowned the 13 & Under Football Champion when Portsmouth Secondary School and the Dominica Grammar School meet in the Final on Monday since the St. Mary’s Academy was knocked out at the semi-final stage.
The Dominica Grammar School has already featured in the three (3) other football finals which took place earlier in the school year – the DGS won the U-20 and U-17 categories and lost the U-15 title to the St. Mary’s Academy.
The 13 & Under Secondary Schools Football Championship was introduced by the Sports Division in 2013 as a way to cater for the high influx of U-13 footballers who graduate annually from the Primary Schools U-13 Football program.
