Pichelin & Falcons On A Rise

Pichelin & Falcons

The members of the Fashion Line Falcons Basketball team are not only enjoying their great spell of basketball this season but also the improved condition of their hard court in Pichelin.

Fashion Line Falcons ended the regular season of the DABA FLOW Premier League at the top of the table with only one loss (13-1) advancing to the Play-Offs scheduled to kick off tomorrow August 3rd. Three (3) players from the Falcons Basketball Team were selected for the U20 National Basketball Team who represented Dominica at the 2016 Windward Islands School Games in Grenada. Adding to all these achievements, Yawani Regis who’s a member of the Falcons Basketball Academy won MVP of the Sports Division Primary Schools Mini Basketball Festival earlier this summer at Sports Divisions 24th Annual Schools Sports Awards.

We spoke with captain of the club Yannick Regis congratulating him on their achievements so far and asking a few questions about the development of the hard court. Regis said that they’ve really been enjoying their run this season and are greatful for the development of the hard court.

“We are very proud with the way this season is going as member a of the club was also selected to the Under 16 National Team which went to Guyana earlier this summer. It’s a superb feeling seeing the success which we are getting from our hard work. I think the main reason for such success is the focus throughout the season as well as the intense pre-season training program which we started doing at the end of last year.

In Regards to the recent improvements made to the hard court Regis said that they’ve come a very long way.

“This has been a project that has been in the works for over 3 years now and has been in the pipeline for even longer. It took some time to reach the point where we are right now but there’s still a lot of work to be done before it will be 100% complete. It’s a government funded project with our Parliamentary Representative Hon Dr. Kenneth Darroux leading the way while members of the club contributed by physical labour.”

“I still see this as the tip of the iceberg to be honest, I see basketball in Pichelin absolutely exploding in the next 5 years and when people think about basketball in Dominica the first place that comes to mind will be Pichelin. We currently  have a youth academy officially opening sometime this month with some very excited and anxious youth. So Pichelin will have a long line of basketball players coming up in the future.

The Pichelin Sports Club also received financial assistance from the Dominica National Lotteries Commission which will go towards the purchase of equipment for that sporting facility. We look forward to the official launch of the academy and would like to wish members of the Pichelin Sports Club and Fashion Line Falcons all the best in the future.

Below are a few pictures showing the progress of the hard dated as far back as January.
