Opening Ceremony For The 2016 Rio Olympic Games

Although some football matches for both men and women were played throughout the week, the opening ceremony for the Rio Olympic Games will be tomorrow, August 5th at the Maracanã Stadium in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

Ahead of the Olympics Games, many Dominican athletes were hoping to qualify and secure a spot in Rio but unfortunately only two athletes will represent Dominica in Rio. They are Triple Jumper Yordanys Garcia and Triple Jumper Thea Lafond. They qualified after Garcia had a jump of 15.96m winning gold at the OECS Championships while Lafond won silver with a jump of 13.30m.

The Women’s Triple Jump Qualification is scheduled to begin at 8:40am on Saturday, August 13th while the Mens Triple Jump Qualification should begin on Monday, August 15th at 8:30am.
