The Ministry of Youth, Sports, Culture and Constituency Empowerment will on Saturday July 9, 2016 recognize the hundreds of students and the schools for their achievements in the Sports Division’s activities for the 2015/16 academic year.
The Sports Division will host the 24th Annual Schools Sports Awards from 10:00 am at the main auditorium of the Dominica State College under the theme“DEVELOPMENT THROUGH SPORTS”.
Over two hundred awards, to include trophies and sporting equipment, will be presented to the deserving schools and students who excelled in the 2015/16 academic year.
The academic year, which was viewed in the beginning with uncertainty due to the impacts of Tropical Storm Erika, can be described as very successful with the Sports Division being able to implement over 90% of its programs for 2015/16 period.
As such, Awards will be given for championships held in the following Sporting disciplines:
- Table Tennis
- Track and Field
The awardees will be coming from the primary and secondary schools and the Dominica State College.
Down to address the function are the Sports Coordinator in the Ministry of Youth, Sports, Culture and Constituency Empowerment – Mr. Trevor Shillingford and the Member of Parliament for the Roseau North Constituency – Hon. Daniel Lugay in whose constituency the awards ceremony is being held.
As is customary at the Schools Sports Awards, a Guest speaker will address the students; this will be Mr. Joffre Faustin, Former Sports Officer and National Football Coach and present Youth Officer at Dominica Football Association will deliver this year’s feature address.
This Schools Sports Awards is the second such ceremony being held by the Ministry for the year; it follows the staging of the National Sports Awards in May.
