Martinique – Winners of the Windward Islands Women’s Tournament

Late addition Martinique are now the champions of the Windward Island Women Tournament which was held at the Windsor Park Stadium in Dominica from June 15th-19th. Martinique were invited to participate in the tournament after St Lucia and Grenada pulled out for financial reasons.

They defeated Dominica 5-0 on Sunday, June 19th making it Dominica’s 2nd defeat as Dominica lost 3-0 to St. Vincent in the opening match of that tournament.

Both Martinique and St Vincent & the Grenadines ended the tournament on four points, with Martinique capturing the title on a better goal difference. At the closing ceremony, Martinique walked away with (3) three individual awards to include best defender, best midfielder and best striker. St Vincent & the Grenadines got best goalkeeper and MVP of the tournament.

The women are not the only ones who were unable to register a win as the Dominica Men’s Under 20 Football Team lost their 3rd straight match 4-2 to St Kitts and as a result they were knocked out of the CFU Men’s U-20 Qualifiers. In their first two matches the boys lost 2-1 to Jamaica and 3-0 to the Dominican Republic.
