The Dominica Men’s Senior National Football Team played their first match in the 2nd round of the Scotiabank CFU Men’s Caribbean Cup at the Abymes Stadium in Guadeloupe where they lost 2-1 to Guadeloupe.
Guadeloupe took an early advantage when they opened the scoring in the 1st half. However their one goal advantage was short lived as Dominica equalized just minutes before the end of the 1st half. Slingerz FC striker, Julian Wade, converted a penalty to make it 1-1, putting Dominica back in the game and maintain his goal scoring form. With (4) goals so far, Wade is tied as one of the top scorers in the Caribbean Cup. From that point the match was intensified and although Dominica seemed to be having a better game, another goal was conceded giving Guadeloupe a 2-1 lead. Dominica however, did not give up and fought all the way to the 90 minute whistle but were unable to capitalize on their opportunities.
Despite the loss the boys are still very confident and proud of their performance going into their second match against Martinique at the Windsor Park Stadium. A win against Martinique will improve their chances of topping group 2 if Martinique later defeats Guadeloupe.
We are looking forward to a big win for team Dominica against Martinique and we encourage all Dominicans to come show their support.
