Round (2) Of Caribbean Cup Approaches

2016 Caribbean Cup

Shortly after Dominica lost 4-1 to Martinique late March of this year in the first round of the 2016/2017 Scotiabank CFU Men’s Caribbean Cup, we caught up with striker Julian Wade and left back Andrez Joseph to hear their views on the teams performance.

In their first match the national team registered a massive 7 nil win against the BVI where Wade scored a hattrick. Although Dominica lost their second match 4-1 to Martinique at home, he still managed to score two goals for Slingerz FC on his return to guyana. His team Slingerz FC are currently seating at the top of the table in the Guyana Stag Elite. Wade said “It feels good to be scoring, especially on a regular basis. It builds confidence and it makes you feel good. I’m just really enjoying my football right now and i hope it continues”. Wade also said that the depth in Slingerz FC helps them a lot, since they have really good players that can come off the bench and keep the momentum and high standard of football going which in turn allows for consistency even when players are injured or having a bad game.

The starting 11 for both matches included new comer Andrez Joseph as our left back which were his first two matches for the Dominica Men’s Senior National Team. Joseph also made it to the (CFU) Caribbean Football Union All Star U-19 Team late last year.

Joseph told us “It feels very good to represent my country at this age but it doesn’t come easy if anyone thinks so. It’s hard work and a lot of training. In BVI it was a good debut for me and good win for the team. Although we lost against Martinique in Dominica, I think it just thought us a lesson that we need to train some more and work harder.

The second round of this competition will be on from June 1st – 7th where Dominica will be facing french islands Guadeloupe and Martinique in Group 2.
