Opening Of The 2016 United Insurance Secondary Schools U-20 Cricket Championship

The United Insurance Company has once again partnered with the Sports Division in bringing the Secondary Schools U-20 Cricket Championship to the schools.

The United Insurance Secondary Schools U-20 Cricket Championship will bowl off on Friday, January 15, 2016 at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium. Nine (9) schools have registered for this year’s championship. They are the Dominica Grammar School, Castle Bruce Secondary School, Goodwill Secondary School, North East Comprehensive School, St. Mary’s Academy, Portsmouth Secondary School, Pierre Charles Secondary School, Dominica State College and the Isaiah Thomas Secondary School.

United Insurance Company Ltd annually sponsors the championship to the tune of ten thousand, five hundred dollars (EC$10,500.00). Ten thousand dollars (EC$10,000.00) go towards the general running of the competition whilst the winning school receives a cash prize of five hundred dollars (EC$500.00).

The usual opening ceremony will start off proceedings at 10:00 am with remarks expected to come from: Mr. Yehudi John – Acting Sports Coordinator, Her Worship Irene John – Mayor of Roseau, Mr. Nigel Shillingford – a representative of the sponsor – United Insurance and Company Ltd and from the Hon. Justina Charles – the Minister responsible for Youth, Sports, Culture and Constituency Empowerment.

The schools will again be represented by their Champion Houses in the ballorama that will follow the opening ceremony.

Last year’s ballorama champion was the Balata House of the Pierre Charles Secondary School.

The overall winner of the championship was the Dominica State College with the North East Comprehensive School taking the Runner Up position.
