The 2nd academic term has begun and this is when the Sports Division will host several activities which target the secondary schools.
On Wednesday, January 13, 2016, the first championship for the term, the 2016 Secondary Schools Volleyball Championships for both boys and girls will commence.
Ten (10) teams have registered to take part in the female championship and they will be divided into two zones. The schools are the Goodwill Secondary School, Dominica Grammar School, Dominica State College, Pierre Charles Secondary School, Isaiah Thomas Secondary School, Portsmouth Secondary School, Castle Bruce Secondary School, St. Martin Secondary School, North East Comprehensive School and the Wesley High School.
Seven (7) teams will compete in the boys’ championship which will be done on a round robin basis. They are the Dominica Grammar School, Dominica State College, Pierre Charles Secondary School, Isaiah Thomas Secondary School, Portsmouth Secondary School, Castle Bruce Secondary School and the North East Comprehensive School.
This year, the traditional ballorama amongst the Champion Houses at the beginning of the championships will not occur but rather, the championships will start off straightaway with matches.
As per the Schedule of Matches, on Wednesday January, 13th, four (4) matches are scheduled to take place. The Isaiah Thomas Secondary School will play host to both the female and the male teams of the Portsmouth Secondary School with matches starting at 2:00 pm and 3:30 pmrespectively.
At the Dominica Grammar School’s hard court, the Dominica Grammar School’s female team will come up against the Wesley High School at 2:00 pm whilst at 3:30 pm, it will be the boys of the Dominica Grammar School taking on the boys of the Castle Bruce Secondary School.
In the 2015 Championships, the Dominica State College won the male category whilst the Dominica Grammar School won the female category.
