National Sports Awards Scheduled for Tomorrow

The Ministry of Youth, Sports, Culture & Constituency Empowerment will host the 10th Annual National Sports Awards on Wednesday, May 4, 2016.

The event which has as its theme “Honouring Sporting Achievements” will be held at the Fort Young Hotel from 7:00pm and will be addressed by the Sports Coordinator in the Ministry of Youth, Sports, Culture and Constituency Empowerment – Mr. Trevor Shillingford and the Honourable Minister for Youth, Sports, Culture & Constituency Empowerment – Mrs. Justina Charles.

Outstanding sports personalities and institutions will be honoured for their contributions in 2015.  Thirty-eight (38) awards will be presented at the event

Awardees will include MVPs for various sporting disciplines, Special Olympics Athlete of the Year, PE/Sports Teacher of the Year (Primary and Secondary), School of the Year in Sports (Primary and Secondary), Sports Reporter of Year, Coach of the Year, Club of Year, amongst others.

The highlight of the evening’s event will be the declaration of the sportsman and sportswoman of the Year for 2015. Among the contenders for Sportsman of the year are:

  • Yordanys Garcia – Track & Field
  • Thomas Felix – Basketball
  • Tyron Theophile – Cricket
  • Randolph Peltier – Football

The contenders for Sportswoman of the year:

  • Shernel St. Rose – Netball
  • Alijah Titre – Football
  • Alliyah Prince – Table Tennis
  • Shanee Angol – Track and Field

A special recognition award will also form part of Wednesday evening’s presentation.
